The Bible is a perfect book. It teaches me how to govern my life in a way that will be pleasing to God. America also has a book, although it is not perfect like the Bible, it is still a good book. It has served us well. I am referring to our Constitution.
However, just like the perfect Bible, our imperfect Constitution doesn’t seem to be working. Has it grown too old and out of date to work in the modern world? How can America be going so wrong when the Constitution seems to guide us to the right path?
The trouble is not in the Constitution, just like the trouble is not with the Bible. The trouble is that men will not follow it, especially our leaders!
There has been for many years a disturbing trend among politicians and other elected officials to take the words of their oaths as a mere formality. But every president, governor, legislator, every cabinet member and most law enforcement officers swear an oath to support the constitution of the United States. It’s not just liberals — who have always disdained the limits the constitution puts on their dreams of ever-larger government — but it is conservatives also.
In this week’s PathLight, Dr. T. D. Worthington reminds us that as we go to the polls, we must vote for leaders who will honestly defend and protect the Constitution of the United States.
