Sometimes you need to be a preacher. You might say, “but that is something God has not called me to do.” Perhaps, that’s true! But you don’t have to have any special credentials to preach a sermon to yourself!
A self-sermon is a way to remind yourself of the truth about you, and about your relationship in Christ. Self-sermons help us lay down a tailor-made list of specific lies that we may have embraced over time; lies that may be hindering our walk with God.
You may say that such a thing would be silly and childish, but I submit, that it is not. Do you realize that most of your unhappiness in life is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself?
On this week’s PathLight Program, Dr. T. D. Worthington gives us four sample sermons that you might use as examples to preach to yourself. Maybe the sermon you need is something different from these. It will likely be something unique for you. The Holy Spirit will give you the words of the sermon, the self-sermon that you need to preach to yourself.
Why not give it a try? Because it is extremely likely that the sermon you most need right now might not come from me…it very well could come for you!
