There is a crisis in America. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 19.7 million children live without a father in the home. That’s more than one out of every four children. Research shows that when a child is raised in a fatherless home, he or she is affected in many ways.
Being a dad has never been easy. In our Scripture today we learn of two Godly men, great men, men who loved the Lord and served Him in so many ways…but they were not good fathers. They would have bravely stood up against most any enemy for the Lord, but they would not stand up to their own children. Thus, we have the sad ending of Hophni and Phineus—and of Joel and Abijah.
